This is one of the most popular roasts from one of the most popular coffee companies on the planet.
Iβm of course talking about the iconic Pike Place Roast by Starbucks.
This is not only a popular roast for people who purchase a bag of Starbucks coffee, it also seems like they brew Pike Place in-store ALL THE TIME.
Sometimes Iβm hoping theyβll have another selection available but itβs just that one. But anywayβ¦
I have a little history with this roast.
The first time I tried it I really didnβt enjoy it because it felt like the flavor was lacklusterβ¦ not much to it other than a deep smoky kind of taste.
But alas, tastes can change and when I recently got a bag of it again, I enjoyed it quite a bit more.

And in this article Iβm going to give you my full review of Starbucks Coffeeβs Pike Place Roast.
Overall, Iβd give this coffee a 7 out of 10.
So read on to find out why, and my take on this coffee, starting with the most important aspect, the taste!
The Taste
Hereβs my full breakdown of the tasting for this coffee.
I found the aroma to be smoky, chocolate, and at least a little citrusy.
And the taste is actually pretty much the same as the aroma!
I always love when that happens, that consistency of aroma and taste, and it honestly doesnβt happen very often.
The taste was also smoky, chocolatey, and had that hint of citrus.
Pike Place Roast has a medium acidity which is nice and tangy.

Itβs a medium-bodied coffee.
And the aftertaste/finish actually gives you a citrusy taste mostly, at least thatβs what I noticed.
Another great thing about the taste is that itβs also, in my opinion, practically the same as what it says on the bag!
I always really enjoy when that happens⦠it makes me feel not so crazy.
This isnβt a very complex coffee, there arenβt a lot of different flavor notes in it, but with that being said the taste overall is nice, so I canβt complain about it.
Some Interesting Things About It
Not just this coffee, but almost any Starbucks coffee, can be an interesting roast.
This is certainly not my favorite flavor from Starbucks, but if you want to check that out you can find it here.
I really did enjoy Pike Place this time when I got a bag of it; but here are some interesting notes about this stuff.
Iβve heard very many people complain that Starbucks has a βburntβ taste to it.
I personally would disagree.
Starbucks coffee often has a smoky flavor to it, for sure, and Pike Place Roast is no exception.
But smoky and burnt are two different things.
Smoky can be nice, but burnt basically means the coffee is nasty with a ruined flavor.
But with that being said, I noticed that this coffee grinds kind of strange.
What I mean is that when I grind the beans, they grind very easily and seem to stick to the container where the coffee is deposited.
So I think thereβs something interesting about Starbucks coffee that Iβm not quite sure what it is, and itβs probably something to do with how the coffee is roasted.
Itβs as if itβs on the verge of being over-roasted, or maybe itβs roasted quickly at a high temperature?
Iβm not sure, it could be something to research.
But I suppose thatβs something good to know about it before you give this one a go.
Closing
It had been some years since I had drunk a sip of Pike Place Roast before I picked up this coffee last week.
And after a long break from it, cultivating my taste and whatnot, I do think that Pike Place is a nice coffee.
But with that being said, I donβt think I could drink it for a long time, because of itβs strong, smoky and not very balanced taste.
A whole bag, or maybe two in a row, is enough for me before I would take a couple weeks or months break from it.
But if youβre looking for a coffee with a nice, smooth, chocolatey and smoky flavor profile, than the all famous Pike Place Roast would be a great coffee for you!
I hope that if youβve never tried this popular roast and you give it a go after reading this, that youβll really enjoy it!
Youβll at least find out what all the hype is about.
This smoky, chocolatey and slightly citrusy coffee is worth it, in my opinion.
